A good set of fresh nails can completely change your mood. Especially when they're fabulous and free. I've always been keen to try out the at home kits to see if they are as good as the salon gels. An all in one kits enables you to stay in the comfort of your own home with a cuppa and the TV to company you, instead of using more money on petrol or bus fare.
Belle Gel have just released a home gel manicure kit, the Complete Nail Kit* which is perfect for anyone; gel fanatic or not. When I received this from Shout, I was so pleased as being a student, I don't have £25 spare a month to splash out on a manicure so a do it yourself kit sounded like a nice relaxing treat. The kit comes with a protector base, glossy top, ripe raspberry gel, cleanser & wipe off, nail file, LED lamp and a travel wrap. The packaging is brilliant and the box is handy to keep the set in afterwards or to take away with you on holiday, to your friends house to do theirs.
I cleaned, buffed and filled my nails to get them to the desired shape. This only took a few minutes. One I had done that, I applied a thin, even coat of the protector base to each nail and cure for 60 seconds. The led light is brilliant as you just pop one nail at a time under, press the button and it times it for 60 seconds and then switches off- so you can keep watching your program and enjoy your tea! I learnt to do your fingers from outside to in, as your thumb can be a tricky one.
Then once your nails are protected and ready, you can choose the colour! Ripe Raspberry came with the set but I was kindly sent three more and I chose Cassis, a purple-atumnul colour (being a beauty blogger at this time of you, do you think I'd choose anything else?). The colour coats are a little tedious only because it takes more time. It's the same process as the protector base, thin and even coats but this time they advise you to do 2 coats.
So far so good, my nails were looking fabulous and all that's left to do it the glossy top. I applied this evenly and let that dry naturally. Lastly, you just used the cleanser and wipe off again to remove any sticky residue. I was seriously impressed, the looked professional and I had lots of complements on them. They looked glossy and expensive.
It was much easier than I expected, just like painting your nails with normal nail varnish although it did take a lot longer. So I would recommend doing them at the end of the day after you've cooked your dinner (woops- a mistake of mine!) as you don't want to bash them, or get them too hot over the cooker and risk them being ruined. However, even after this they didn't budge, only one of two had some fluff stuck to them after I had been cooking, which brushed off. They can last up to two weeks and the first one that popped off was after about a week. However I am hand washing my dishes every day.
This kit is simple and easy to use, has been well thought through and leaves you with a strong, glossy finish. It's fun and can you imagine how much you would save? With a bit of practice, I think anyone can have beautiful, gel nails with this starter kit.
The Belle Gel starter kit is available here. So pop it on your Christmas (eek) wishlist and hope Santa brings it for you.
