Every collector, whatever you collect, understands that things can get a bit pricey. When it comes to makeup, it can be a very expensive hobby and when a new palette thats all the rage comes out, it can be hard to restrain yourself. So when I come across a dupe in my own collection, I always feel happy that I can share the dupe with you all.
MAC Lipstick in Velvet Teddy | £15.50
I love MAC lipsticks, MAC Creme Cup was the first MAC product I ever bought about four years ago. This year for my birthday, my housemate bought me Velvet Teddy, which she knew I had wanted for a long time. It is now one of my favourite lip products as I'm sure a lot of you know, it is gorgeous. It is the perfect nude colour that can be worn day and night with a variety of lip liners from drugstore and high end brands. It's neither brown, nor pink, I'd say it's just in the middle. Velvet Teddy is a matte formulae but isn't drying, it is creamy and hydrating and if you think about it, £15.50 isn't highly expensive when it comes to high end lipsticks, is it?
I Heart Makeup Lipstick in Lips That Won't Lie | £1.99
A few months ago, I was browsing the I Heart Makeup section in Superdrug when I saw their lipsticks for £1.99 and on a whim, picked up the colour Lips That Won't Lie. I then used it quite a few times and for £1.99, I was impressed. Now the staying power is no where near as good as MAC lipsticks and you do have to apply about three coats to get it near the pigmentation of MAC lipsticks, but aside from that, this lipstick is almost the same shade. Again with this lipstick, a lip liner is recommended. This is a near-identical product. Take a look at the swatches and see if you can work out which one is which.
Okay, so it might be pretty obvious, but if you don't agree these two swatches look similar, I will be shocked. Lips That Won't Lie is on the left and Velvet Teddy is on the right. LTWL is probably a little more rosy than brown, but for a £13 difference, it is a great alternative for those of us who would rather purchase something else with that. The MAC option is longer lasting and more pigmented, but I can't recommend the I Heart Makeup enough.
If you have been eyeing up Velvet Teddy for a while, try and get your hands on Lips That Won't Lie instead until you have saved up.
